"By way of comparison, the Democratic Republic of Congo has twice the population of Canada but it has one of the lowest ecological footprints in the world. The average Congolese footprint is 0.6 global hectares.

Poverty and hunger are widespread in the Congo. Using the categories of the World Health Organization, 44% of children have stunted growth and a further 34% are underweight. A child has a 20% likelihood of dying under age five. In Canada, the likelihood is 0.6%."
